UK Winter
weather forecast latest

Monday 9th will see fronts pushing into the north bringing some mainly light rain but high pressure will persist across the south and soon move north to cover the Uk except the far north. A wet day in the far north but elsewhere becoming mainly dry but rather cloudy in a mainly rather moist SW’ly flow. Some eastern & SE‘ern parts may see some brightness or sunny spells at times though. Clearing skies later may bring a few mist or fog patches in the south & Midlands later in the evening. Temperatures by day up to a mild 10-11C in the south but more generally 7-8C in the north but only 2-4C in the Highlands.

As we move into the weekend it’s a little less certain but on Saturday 14th looks like we could see fronts moving into the west bringing more in the way of wind and rain after an early slight frost inland in the east. A generally dry day in the east to follow overall until dusk with some bright periods but more unsettled in the west with rain at times and hill and coastal mist, fog and low cloud, some of the rain could be rather heavy at times in the west and NW and it will probably then move east across all areas by evening followed by a clearance in the west as winds drop and pressure rises. Temperatures maxing at about 5-7C, though 9C in the SW and 3C in the Highlands where some hill snow is feasible above about 450m.

FEATURES TO MONITOR THIS WEEK

*Quite windy in the exposed parts of the far NW midweek onwards with gusts to 55mph on exposed headlands

*Slight frost possible inland during the week mainly across central & southern England in particular from Thursday onwards

*Low to moderate risk of some snow at times in upland northern parts in the Highlands & Northern Scotland on mountains above about 450m by the weekend.

*A few icy patches inland at night where rain has fallen by day at times later in the week
